In this video, I begin the restoration of a vintage Helvetia watch powered by the Swiss ETA 2612 manual-wind movement. The watch currently winds but doesn’t tick, and when setting the time it feels like the gears are slipping. Helvetia is a historic Swiss brand founded in 1895, known for producing reliable and affordable watches, including military and civilian models throughout the 20th century. The ETA 2612 movement inside this watch was made in the 1970s, a simple but durable 17-jewel caliber with a date function that remains serviceable today. In Part 1, I carefully disassemble the movement step by step, identifying issues such as a missing jewel in the train bridge and a damaged crown wheel screw. In Part 2, I will clean, lubricate, and reassemble the watch to bring it back to life.
