Win Thin, Chief Economist at Bank of Nassau and Bloomberg Intelligence Global Head of Technology Research Mandeep Singh, discuss the market shift ahead of Nvidia earnings, as well as the longer term outlook of AI's influence on investment and labor. Wall Street traders drove stocks higher ahead of earnings from Nvidia Corp., whose bar has been raised amid questions on whether its revenues will justify the billions of dollars spent in artificial intelligence. Just hours away from results of the last of the “Magnificent Seven” megacaps to report, the S&P 500 halted a four-day drop. Given the $4.5 trillion company’s influence on broader indexes, the reaction to its numbers and outlook could drag the whole market up or down with it. Nvidia jumped 2.5%. With investors growing increasingly skittish about AI spending, how the results are interpreted will be key. Strong earnings and an encouraging outlook could provide a respite for investors concerned about the valuation of AI shares, the circular nature of financing deals and the vast sums being spent on infrastructure without much to show for it. Those fears have rattled the stock market, recently driving the US equity benchmark to its longest rout since August. “We continue to believe that concerns over an AI bubble bursting are overblown at least for now,” said Chris Senyek at Wolfe Research. “We remain buyers of AI-related stocks on share-price weakness, but waiting for either an upside Nvidia surprise” or more washed-out technicals to become more aggressive buyers. Aside from Nvidia’s results, Wall Street is also gearing up for a $16 billion US sale of 20-year bonds and the Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes. At Evercore, Krishna Guha says traders should brace for a hawkish reading, but shouldn’t write off a December rate cut. The record will come out on the eve of the jobs report. The S&P 500 rose to around 6,645. A gauge of tech megacaps climbed 1.2%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries was little changed at 4.12%. The dollar edged up. Oil sank as a report showing rising US stockpiles helped ease concerns over geopolitical risks sprawling from Iran to Russia and Venezuela. -------- Watch Bloomberg Radio LIVE on YouTube Weekdays 7am-6pm ET WATCH HERE: http://bit.ly/3vTiACF Follow us on X: / bloombergradio Subscribe to our Podcasts: Bloomberg Daybreak: http://bit.ly/3DWYoAN Bloomberg Surveillance: http://bit.ly/3OPtReI Bloomberg Intelligence: http://bit.ly/3YrBfOi Balance of Power: http://bit.ly/3OO8eLC Bloomberg Businessweek: http://bit.ly/3IPl60i Listen on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with the Bloomberg Business app: Apple CarPlay: https://apple.co/486mghI Android Auto: https://bit.ly/49benZy Visit our YouTube channels: Bloomberg Podcasts: / bloombergpodcasts Bloomberg Television: / @markets Bloomberg Originals: / bloomberg Quicktake: / @bloombergquicktake
