Saint Gabrielia: the Eldress of Joy - Abbess Filothei

If there was a single word that could encompass the entirety of life inside the Church, that word would be "joy". It is a saint's joy to be able to give away all their belongings to those in need. It is a saint's joy to be able to fully trust their life in the hands of God. It is in that very sense of joy that Saint Gabrielia grew up, served and became a nun. Born in Istanbul and having studied overseas, Aurelia (her secular name) found herself on a hierapostolic mission all across the world. From India and the Himalayas all the way to the UK and Africa, the Eldress of joy never thought twice about offering all of her belongings to help those less fortunate. During her final years, she returned to Greece where she passed away on March 28, 1992 at the age of 95, in the island of Leros. The joy with which she approached everything around her, the creation and people, is truly a sign of someone who lives real heaven. Let Saint Gabrielia, thus, be a role model for all Christians wishing to experience eternal life.
