US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on March 9 arrested Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil who "led" the protest at Columbia University against Israel's war on Gaza. The arrest came after US President Donald Trump vowed to deport foreign pro-Palestinian student demonstrators. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the action was taken "in support of Trump's executive orders prohibiting anti-Semitism, and in coordination with the Department of State”. The National Students for Justice in Palestine called for mass unrest on campuses across the US.
