Can Wollongong's Hardest Chop Ride Help Prepare Me for Tour De Brisbane?

Last year at the Tour de Brisbane, my race was over before it really began. A flat tire just 20km in ruined my chances of qualifying for the UCI World Championships in Lorne. It was a gut-wrenching way to end the day, but with the 2026 Worlds being held in Hokkaido, Japan, the goal is clear: get some revenge and secure that qualification. To make it happen, I’ve teamed up with my coach Ryan from RCA (Road Cycling Academy) for a brutal 10-week block to dial everything in before the big day on April 12th. The build started with a trip down to the 'Gong' for what I was told is the area's hardest chop ride. We got up at 4:00 AM to make the drive down from Sydney, and man, the Gong boys did not muck around. It was hectic from the start. This was a proper test of the legs. I averaged 311W for over an hour, with a normalized power of 350W. Stoked to say I didn't get dropped on the pinches for once! With about 8-9 weeks to go, it’s all about consistency and giving it a red-hot crack to make sure that Japan trip becomes a reality.
