Improving My Cover Usage - Git Gud #13 - Apex Legends Analysis

Welcome to Git Gud, an educational series where I analyze my gameplay to see what I did right, what I did wrong, and how I could’ve played better. I’ll try to go through every aspect that I can, covering mechanics, positioning, and game sense. Over the past few months, I’ve been working heavily on my cover usage, making sure that I don’t take fights in the open and isolating targets as much as possible. Good cover usage can make up for a lot of deficiencies in your gameplay because you end up in fewer fights whose outcomes are determined solely by aim. If they can’t hit you, they can’t kill you, which means you get more chances at making a comeback if things go poorly. Now that I’ve actively worked on it for a while, my gameplay looks completely different from how it used to, and I wanted to share some of what I learned along the way. The analysis in this video will be heavily focused on why the cover I’m using is good if I’m using it properly or how I could’ve positioned better if I’m not. Additionally, each clip will have a theme of cover control that I want to highlight, so we’re not just analyzing the same thing over and over again. We’ll go over target isolation, how using cover can influence your opponents’ decision making, how to box fight, and what kind of pressure you face when you use cover well versus when you don’t. Often times it’s easy and convenient to blame your teammates when things don’t go well. While you can’t control what other people do, you can control your own actions and there’s usually always something that you could have done better. Since Apex Legends is a fluid and fast paced game where situations are ever changing, it can be hard to think about all these things while you’re playing which is why analyzing your own gameplay afterwards and doing VOD reviews are of the quickest ways you can educate yourself, learn from your mistakes, and get better at the game.
