Masami Yamada welcomes us at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to discuss her role as Curator of Japanese lacquerware, netsuke, ukiyo-e and Japanese contemporary crafts and design. She also takes us behind the scenes to look at two recent museum's acquisitions. Examples of kiriko (Japanese cut-glass) from the 1930s are attractive illustrations of Asian Art Deco. A remarkable seamless copper tea kettle by Gyokusendō, a 205-years old family-run workshop, allows her to present Japanese contemporary crafts and the museum's role in introducing the making process of objects in its collection.
