The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has clarified that State Governments can no longer delay or manipulate the appointment of the Director General of Police (DGP). As per directions of the Supreme Court of India, any delay in sending the list of eligible officers for DGP empanelment will now require prior approval from the Supreme Court.
