Presentation by Dr. Suvidha Gupta, Marie Curie Individual Fellow - “Upgrading Wastewater for the Production of Bio-Based Chemicals”. Seminar Sustainable Urban Futures arranged by NMBU Sustainability Arena - GreenSmart at the science center Vitenparken in January 2025. About GreenSmart: Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is committed to addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary research and education, fostering innovations in food systems, health, environmental protection, climate solutions, and sustainable resource management. As part of this commitment, NMBU has established five Sustainability Arenas, each focusing on specific themes to enhance collaborative efforts toward a sustainable future. One of these, the GreenSmart Arena, is dedicated to sustainable urban development. GreenSmart operates at the crossroads of social, economic, and environmental sustainability, connecting individuals with impactful projects and translating knowledge into practical actions. GreenSmart’s focus areas include developing interdisciplinary programs, fostering innovation, and advancing research and education to create sustainable cities. The arena collaborates with internal faculties and external partners to drive progress in urban sustainability. Supported by Pådriv, the NMBU Learning Center, and Vitenparken, GreenSmart acts as a hub for expertise and resources in areas such as land and resource management, energy efficiency, ecological systems, circular economy, social justice, urban agriculture, and entrepreneurship. Through partnerships and initiatives, both domestically and internationally, GreenSmart aims to establish meaningful platforms like seminar series and workshops to connect people with projects and inspire actionable solutions. The arena continuously seeks passionate individuals and organizations to contribute to creating sustainable, green, and innovative cities. Vitenparken and GreenSmart: As a science center dedicated to sustainability and food systems, Vitenparken collaborates closely with the GreenSmart Arena. This partnership includes leading dissemination and communication efforts, as well as engaging students in hands-on learning through Vitenparken’s school garden initiatives. Together, they work to inspire and educate the next generation about sustainability and sustainable urban practices.
