El Capricho by Antoni Gaudi is a pavilion located in the Comillas Pontifical University, in the province of Cantabria, Spain. It was designed by Gaudi between 1883 and 1885 and built as a summer residence for the Marquis of Comillas, Don Antonio López y López de Osorio y Berruguete. It is considered to be one of the first works of modernist architecture, and an important precursor to Gaudi's later work. The building is constructed of brick, with a facade decorated with ceramic tiles and wrought iron. The interior is filled with furniture and objects designed by Gaudi himself. The building is set in a large garden, and includes a number of sculptures by Gaudi. It was declareda UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 and is currently open to the public as a museum.
