We are at the corner of Greenwich Avenue and West 10th Street in the West Village, where we see FDNY Squad 18, as they go on a run for a non-structural call at 8th Avenue and Bleecker Street. There was no further information on the call. They were 1st due. The Squad came back about 5 minutes after they left, so it must have been a false alarm. Enjoy the view of the time honored tradition of a fireman sliding down the pole, as well as the sight of the rig as it leaves quarters. Squad 18 is 2002 Seagrave mid-ship "rescue pumper". Carrying 500 gallons of water in the tank, this engine has been modified for the purposes of the FDNY. A high-backed compartment area reduces the total length of hose this apparatus may carry when compared to a standard engine company. However, the reduced hose-bed allows for an increased volume of compartment space, which the Squad uses to carry its specialized rescue equipment.
