Isaiah 9:6 (NIV2011) 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. “…He will be called Wonderful Counselor…” Example: Engineers and Dishwashers John 1:1-14 (NIV2011) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. 6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jesus is a Counselor who knows it all “…the Word was God.” (John 1:1) Question: How might your life be different if you had the counsel of someone who knew it all? Example: Flight to NY It makes sense to discover, understand and obey what Jesus says about life Jesus is a Counselor who understands your challenges “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” (John 1:14) Example: Childbirth Hebrews 4:14-15 (NIV2011) 14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Jesus knows everything about you and what you’re going through Jesus is a Counselor who is for you “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) Example: Justice System 1 John 2:1-2 (NIV2011) 1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. Closing: Christian caveats John 1:12 (NIV2011) 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God… Invitation Slide: John 1:12 (NIV2011) 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…
