This episode captures another quiet but important stage of life and work in the forest, deep into winter. In freezing temperatures, I continue building my log cabin step by step. This time, the focus is on closing the front gables — slowly sealing the structure while working outside in the cold. I also install two triangular windows high in the gables, right in the center. I felt this was a good decision, as they will bring more natural daylight into the cabin and change the feeling of the space inside. Originally, this film was also meant to include the installation of the main cabin windows. However, that work turned out to be a much longer and more time-consuming process than expected, so it couldn’t be completed in time for this episode and will be shown later as a separate step in the journey. Alongside the main work, daily life in the forest continues. I carve a simple bird feeder from a solid log, burning and hollowing out the center by hand — a small but meaningful task for the wildlife around the cabin. During a walk through the forest, I find chaga — a wild medicinal mushroom that has been used for centuries in northern forests. I prepare a simple tea from it and take a quiet moment to slow down. Chaga is traditionally known for its antioxidant properties and is often used to support the immune system and overall well-being, especially during long, cold winters. This film isn’t about rushing toward a finish line. It’s about building by hand, adapting to winter conditions, and living each day as it comes — with work, stillness, and small discoveries along the way.
