Day 6: Meditation: Mastering the Mind - Talks on Bhagavad Gita Chapter 6 by Swami Aparajitananda ji Day 6 Talk Summary: The last day of Jnana yagna started with exploring ways of quietening the mind: Fulfill the desires. This is temporary Technique of suppression: This is also temporary Technique of distraction: Focus on something else, also temporary Technique of sublimation: Best way to quieten the mind Bhagavan says that through Abhyasa (practice) and Vairagya (detachment), one can train the mind. Mind goes to sense objects because it is convinced they are the source of joy. Mind doesn’t realize that every sense object is designed to end in pain. This is the compassion of the Lord. The best way is to develop Vairagya. When pain comes, be aware of it and endure it. Educate the mind of the pain so next time, it develops vairagya. Vairagya teaches the mind that objects have no joy. The second technique is Abhyasa, turning the attention to the Self. Abhyasa teaches that defect-free peace/happiness comes only from the Self. Time comes when the mind has no interest in sense objects: this is Sublimation. When Arjuna asks the Lord about a seeker who drops the body without attaining fulfillment. Will his efforts be lost and in vain? Bhagavan responds by assuring Arjuna that such a yoga bhrashta, after death, goes to the meritorious world. The greater the purity, the higher the world achieved. The highest yogi goes to Brahma Loka. Bhagavan further explains that a person who has put in the efforts of Sadhana is born into a righteous family where he continues with his Sadhana. A yogi who worships and meditates upon Him with right understanding, Bhagavan elucidates, is the best.
