This is a luxury safari camp located in the Eastern Serengeti in an area that was closed for many years for the purpose of Cheetah Research and protection. The area was then reopened to tourism in 2014 and Namiri Plains was the first of the camps to get built in that area and remains quite exclusive with vehicles from other safari camps a rarity to be seen on a typical day out on safari. The camp is operated by Asilia Camps and their flagship property for the Serengeti. The rooms are very large and comfortable constructed with stone walls and a canvas dome roof covering the whole room, almost Bedouin Tent like from the outside but very modern on the inside. All the facilities are plumbed in, solar heated water, 24 hour power and Wi-Fi in your room and the main guest dining area. There are also two separate units called The Retreats which are much bigger with each room having two bedrooms and a separate dining facility - very much designed for families or small groups to be separate and exclusive. The meals here are great with each meal being a mini buffet brought to your table and explained to you by the camps chefs and they will certainly cater for the common dietary requirements people have today - Vegetarian , Vegan, Gluten Free etc. Importantly this area is where you get the vast open plains that are how many people think of the Serengeti and it remains a great area to look for Cheetah along with the other big cats and really works at any time of year as it does have, not only the open plains, but also some nice river areas, marshes and woodlands so there is always resident wildlife. For me I really enjoy coming here from November through March as that is when you would expect more of the migration herds to be in the area and the action that comes with that.
