Today I spoke with Keisha Kiger, who grew up believing in Jesus but ultimately deconverted as the truth claims of Christianity fell apart. We touched on many topics, including: • Being raised in a strict Christian household where she came to believe that all non-Christians were inherently aligned with the devil and headed to hell. • Discovering Santa Claus was a myth, which made her question whether Jesus was real, sparking a lifelong analytical approach to her epistemology. • Developing obsessive-compulsive tendencies rooted in Christianity, from a young age, as she feared that stray thoughts could condemn her and believed that both god and Satan were constantly watching her. • Being haunted by the doctrine of hell, leading to intense anxiety and a deep fear that she might be eternally separated from her family. • Internalizing purity culture from a young age, ensuring she dressed modestly to avoid tempting men, which contributed to an unhealthy self-image and fear of her own body. • Being disturbed by the idea that god placed believers in difficult situations as divine tests, making morality feel like an impossible guessing game between god and Satan. • Seeing that religious leaders and parents pushed Christianity as unquestionable truth, often dismissing doubts as sinful, which fueled her growing skepticism. • Recognizing that Yahweh’s behavior in the Bible mirrored that of toxic parents who manipulate and abuse their children. • Doing research over many years that culminated in her fully escaping Christianity. • Finding immense freedom as she let go of the concept of hell. • Pursuing joy in simple pleasures and philosophical inquiry as she focuses on the power of curiosity and critical thinking in breaking free from religious trauma. Many thanks to Keisha for sharing her story! _________________________________________ Your support for my channel, Harmonic Atheist, is very needed and appreciated!
