Discovery, the horizon, it's the “yes” to adventure, to displacement, to breaking the boundaries of one's certainties. In all my compositions, we find this notion of something moving forward. I've already dealt with the train, but in terms of its dreamy aspect at the window, a detachment of the mind from the scenery as it passes by. Here, it's an inexorable, powerful train, piercing through the mists of forests and steppes. A fantasized Trans-Siberian linking Europe and the Russian soul, Ravel and Prokofiev, Hugo and Pushkin, a train from the depths of time hurtling over a bridge built by artists who admire and inspire each other despite bombs and heartbreak. A train that connects the hearts and souls of those who know they must join hands in all weathers. And I think back to this line from “Les Âmes Mortes” (Dead Souls) “Where are you going Troika? Where are you going? She doesn't answer and speeds up, always.” Gogol. ““””
