The puerperium is crucial for maternal recovery and the establishment of breastfeeding and infant care routines. Phases of Puerperium - Immediate Puerperium: The first 24 hours after delivery, focusing on the mother's recovery from labor and delivery. This phase involves close monitoring for any immediate postpartum complications such as hemorrhage or infection. Early Puerperium: The first week postpartum, where significant changes occur, including uterine involution (shrinking of the uterus), lochia discharge (postpartum vaginal bleeding), and the initiation of breastfeeding.
