In this video, I showcase the rare Pearl SS-102 solid state amp, a hidden gem from Japan's 70s era that echoes the Roland Jazz Chorus, delivering crystal-clear sound and versatile modulation. I pair it with the AMT TH-1 Tube Hall reverb pedal, a Russian-made reverb and delay pedal featuring an original 6N2P-EV tube, and my custom feline partscaster guitar, equipped with the Gilmour mod for maximum tonal range. Audio is captured using a modified Telefunken TD 26 microphone and transferred via a Yamaha MT-50 cassette recorder. Watch as I explore its clean tones, warm chorus, and swirly flange effects! 🎸🎶 🔊 About the Pearl SS-102 solid state amp (Made in Japan in the seventies): This amplifier is loud, crystal clear, noiseless, and easy to service. It checks all the boxes for what I was looking for, with the added bonus of not making me miss the warmth of my all-tube amps. I picked it up recently at a great price from a fantastic French collector. It offers two channels (high and low) and two modes (normal and distortion), along with an "analog effect flange" section that's easily controlled via footswitch. The modulation section is impressively versatile, allowing for everything from a warm chorus to a swirly flange, and even rapid, wild vibratos. As for the distortion mode—like most overdrive modes from that era and country—it’s completely unusable. It’s harsh, dry, and aggressively filtered, making it ear-piercing. That’s exactly why I didn’t bother showcasing it in the video—doing so would’ve been a complete waste of time. This... ⛰️ About the AMT-1 Tube Hall reverb pedal: This is the SPRING preset from the AMT TH-1 Tube Hall pedal, a hidden gem from Russia that dates back to the early 2000s. It still uses its original 6N2P-EV tube, which I intend to leave as is. However, I’m considering using an adapter to try out some of my vintage European and U.S. NOS tubes for a little tube-rolling fun. The pedal features both reverb and delay effects.
