We hiked up Cadair Idris on 13.01.2022 and it was an absolutely beautiful day for it. The drive through the market town of Dolgellau was lovely, with lots of old buildings giving it a real sense of history. For our hike, we chose the easiest route up—the Pony Path. There's a small car park conveniently located right at the start of the route, which costs £6 for the whole day. There's probably only 20-30 spaces though, so this would fill up very quickly in the peak season. As soon as we left the road, we walked along a little stream with thick, green moss all around us. It was so relaxing to hear only the sound of water flowing over rocks and birds chirping in the trees. Just a short way up the steep slope of the hillside, we had views stretching far into the distance with clouds sitting in the lower valley beneath us. It was so tranquil, with the silence only occasionally broken by a shepherd calling his dogs. What a beautiful countryside feeling! I guess that's one of the advantages of winter—there aren't many other visitors around and you have a better chance to fully enjoy your surroundings. The hike up to the ridge above Llyn y Gadair was fairly easy. We really took our time and chose a spot with a view of the summit to sit and eat our lunch. Watching the cloud inversion below us really was magic! We were amazed by it and I could spend the whole day just watching it passing gently across the mountains. Thank you nature for having us, for letting us be free, and for showing us your beauty! We will surely be back again one day. We hope you enjoyed watching our Snowdonia walking video and we'd love to know if you've also been to Cader Idris? If so, what did you enjoy most about your hike? Take care and see you in our next hiking video :)
