VO NUOL initiates master's in population studies INTRO: The National University of Laos (NUOL) has initiated discussions to brainstorm ideas for setting up a master's degree in population and development studies. STORY: A meeting to discuss the course took place on Tuesday, chaired by NUOL Vice President Associate Prof. Dr Phouth Simmalavong. The talks were led by NUOL with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Laos. Academics and line ministry officials shared their ideas on population issues in Laos, as well as the proposed master's programme, which would be offered at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Amid changing demographics and a population increase, the change in population structure is bringing both challenges and opportunities for the development of Laos. Understanding the implications through evidence and analysis will enable the government to make better plans for the future.
