Thermoforming is a plastic molding technique, that results in a variety of highly usable products. A plastic sheet is heated to a pliable temperature in an oven; it is stretched and formed in a mould and then cooled to a finished shape. Thermoforming is grouped into two categories depending on the sheet thickness of the formed part. They are: ● Thin gauge thermoforming ● Thick gauge thermoforming. The thermoforming process involves three basic steps. 1. heating the plastic sheet 2. Forming the plastic sheet 3. Trimming and finishing it into a usable product. The methods by which the forming steps are accomplished can be classified into three basic types: ▶ Vacuum thermoforming ▶ Pressure thermoforming ▶ Mechanical thermoforming All these are explained in the video.
