This specific rendition of the famous Alexander Arutunijan Concerto is just one of four that I recorded over the last 45 years of my musical career here in Europe and all 4, I am proud to say, are still available as CD or online today. Two were recorded "Live" with Symphony Orchestral Accompaniment: one as the Top Prize Winner of the International German Radio and Television System' ARD - Classical Solo Trumpet Competition in 1980 (with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra as my accompaniment and performed in the "Hercules Saal" in the "Muenchener Residenz") and the other in 1982 with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra in the historical Regenten Bau in Bad Kissingen as an exclusive La Tromba Music Production. The other 2 were so called "Studio Productions": with the one presented here from 1994 (a La Tromba / BR, Munich "Studio I" Co- Production) with the North Bavarian Youth Concert Wind Ensemble and the other as a Co-Production for MMO, New York and La Tromba, Germany recorded in 2003 in Kiev with the National Symphonic Wind Orchestra of the Ukraine. Each of these recordings have, I believe, their own but very different musical and interperative qualities. All of these Works recorded at the Bavarian State Studio I in Munich in early January of 1995 were the logical continuation of my earliest interests in making music with persons of all ages, and serious musical development, in this case the North Bavarian Youth Concert Wind Ensemble, (with students from 14 through 25 years of age). Having worked for over a decade in the 1980s ad 1990s with both the North Bavarian Youth Symphonic Wind Ensemble and North Bavarian Youth Symphony Orchestra was very rewarding for me (on a both a Musical and personal level) and the high point was this project and both Soloist, Artistic Director and Co-Producer. Working with young people was always, even from my earliest musical developmental time in Canada, important for me and since all of these highly motivated and serious young persons offered their precious "free time" to be involved in realising this music (and sincerely love it!), they too carry an intense passion to such special projects! I was asked by one of my former girlfriends (then a Student of Medicine and 30 years younger than myself) why I continually post pictures of myself that are younger than I am now... Well, it's very simple, I said "I too was once a young musician!", as you can plainly see in the opening picture presented here...(I am 45 years old in this picture!) and many see me as a form of musical inspiration for their own musical ambitions. Therefore why not show a picture of myself at their age that so they can more easily relate to myself? I taught from 1982 to 1993, parallel to my duties as Solo Trumpet of the Bamberg Symphony and from 1983 my Full Time teaching position at the City Music Conservatory and from 2001 at the Bavarian State Music University in Wuerzburg, Germany. The Solos works from these recordings in 1995 (accompanied by an excellent Student Concert Band) are the complete Original version of J. B. Arban's Theme and (all) Variations on "The Carnival of Venice" (in a very fine arrangement by the American Roger Janotta) plus Arban's original Cadenzas (that I personally adapted from his famous 19th Century Cornet Method), as well as the Concerto in A minor from the Armenian, Alexander Arutunjan with the exciting final Cadenza written by the famous Ukrainian Trumpeter, Timofey Dokschitzer! If you are indeed enjoying these my earlier recordings with other musically passionate young Musicians please go to my previous You Tube "Legacy" Recordings in this series... those where I recorded the Virtuoso works of Giuseppe Tartini, Vincenzo Bellini, Josef Haydn, J.N. Hummel, Leopold and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart offer a somewhat different musical experience (where I am conducting some excellent professional String Chamber Ensembles and Full Chamber Orchestras from both Prague and Munich). In case you have indeed missed them, I most especially suggest my Legacy Videos numbered 2 through 7.
