As we move from the practice of spinal immobilization to spinal motion restriction, we must still know how to apply a cervical collar. There are a few methods, but seems to be the most objective. 1. Place your hand on the patient's shoulder as close to the neck as possible. 2. Identify how many fingers it takes to reach the level of the chin. (You will have to visualize your fingers extending out) 3. If needed, remove fingers from the top rather than the bottom of your hand. 4. Apply the respective fingers to the bottom of the blue of the collar 5. Identify which the hole that's covered by the top finger 6. Unlock and resize the collar as needed. Lock into place. 7.
