Thirumoorthy Hill is a part of Western Ghats about 19 km from Udumalaipettai. This hill is also a part of the Indra Gandhi national park and has a huge number of plants and animals living in it. The important landmarks in the Thirumoorthy hill are Thirumoorthy dam, Thirumoorthy waterfall and Thirumoorthy Temple. Thirumoorthy means three idols; Thirumoorthy Malai (Hills) gets the name from the existence of 3 idols of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara (Shiva). Thirumoorthy Hills is not just a paradise for nature lovers but also a religious place. Arulmigu Amanalingeswarar Temple is one of the famous temples in this region. The speciality of this shrine is that it has all three Gods (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) as the prime deities. In fact, the legend of this temple makes this a sacred place. Constructed in the year 1966 across the river Palar, the 60 feet high Thirumoorthy Dam is located 50kms from Pollachi and 20 Kms from Udumalpet (Ooty) on the Palani-Coimbatore highway. It has built mainly for the process of irrigation and for generating electricity. The dam is the main source of water supply to the Coimbatore city. Positioned adjoining Thirumoorthy hill, the dam is an excellent tourist spot with a beautifully laid out garden and swimming pool. Boating facilities are also available in the dam. One can visit the place from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. You can either go to Udumalpet or go from there to the more interior and scenic route that goes through the villages. The drive is simply great with the whole route surrounded by sunflower gardens, coconut groves, and paddy fields. This Reservoir has been constructed across the River Palar which has its origins at the northern slopes of Anamalai Hills. #thirumoorthyhills #shootingspot #dam #temple #ungalmunarun #infrontofyouarun
