In this video, three trains head west on the diesel portion of the North Jersey Coast Line through Allenhurst, back-to-back-to-back. First, we see shuttle train 4777 with the 40th Anniversary ALP-45A leading the way. Right on their heels is the Long Branch yard job YL-54 with GP40-2 4301 leading two Multilevels. These two Multilevels would be added to one or both of the Multilevel sets assigned to Bay Head for direct service to New York. Finally, right behind YL-54 was a non-revenue tie train from the MMC, MM-16, with overhauled ex-CNJ GP40PH-2 4102 for power. Springtime opens the door for the resumption of heavy maintenance on the NJ Transit system, and this year involves extensive railroad tie replacement on portions of the NJCL between Long Branch and Bay Head. Maintenance trains like the tie train are rarely seen, but to have it serve as the grand finale of a mini parade of westbounds that featured a special interest ALP-45 and another Geep made this sequence of trains particularly cool.
