This week I make my variation of a Dakota Fire Pit. The primary objective was to make a deep firepit for safety purposes to eliminate wind blowing sparks and coals out of the fire pit. However, with a deep pit, you need air flow. Oxygen is critical for a smoke free fire. I built an air tight tunnel that will give oxygen to the fire which will reduce smoke and give us a hotter fire. However, it serves a double purpose. Hot air follows hot air. So when the air in the chimney is warmers then the air above the fire it will suck the hot air (including smoke) up the chimney and out of our faces where we are cooking and enjoying the fire. Once the firepit was done I went for a hike down by the river to wash up and found some wild ramps. These were a perfect addition to my potato leek soup. The Patoto Leek Soup butter heavy cream chicken broth salt & pepper garlic leeks potatoes chives bay leaves (wild ramps) opt I started by giving the potatoes, garlic, leeks, ramp bulbs a quick fry in the butter with a bit of salt & pepper to bring out the flavor and soften everything. Once slightly browned and softened I added the ramp tops, bay leaves, salt and peper and chicken broth and let simmer for 15min. I then removed from heat and added the cream and let simmer for anouther 15min or so untill I was too hungry and needed to start eating. Best served with fresh bread and butter. Enjoy. **New Videos every Timber Tuesday** You can also follow our journey on Instagram.
