Finally, after nearly two years of canceled trips due to weather, busy schedules, and school, I was able to make a multiday trip into the heart of the Smoky Mountain National Park. The fish here are not big, but they are incredibly resilient to the changes that have happened within the park over the last century. Logging companies harvested huge swaths of the mountain landscape, destroying much of the old forest. It was only after the logging companies sold the barren land that it was turned into a national park. There are some areas of the park that were not logged. Some stands of old growth forest still remain, though they are tucked high into the mountains in more or less inaccessible areas of the park. The native fauna and brook trout also thrived in these inaccessible regions, undisturbed.
