Right Sector leader to be candidate in upcoming presidential elections

(7 Mar 2014) The leader of Ukraine's far-right opposition movement Right Sector will run in the country's upcoming presidential election. A spokesman for Dmytro Yarosh announced his candidacy in the May election during a news conference in the capital, Kiev, on Friday. Andriy Tarasenko, who is second-in-command in the ultra-nationalist movement, said it would become less militant and more political. He said the new party would participate in both the Kiev City Council elections and all local elections in Ukrainian towns and villages. "Our fight has now become peaceful, which also means political, and that is the reason we're getting involved in politics," he said. "Furthermore I believe that using politics would be a better way to help this country."
