This is a video preview for one of many online courses for continuing education credit we offer at www.handlab.com This 2.5 hour course, updated and expanded from the presentation at the 2013 ASHT Annual Meeting, explores the literature support for therapy treatment choices during flexor tendon rehabilitation. The course is introduced by explanations of how healing occurs, definition of excursion, rationale for the ideal time to start early motion, and the role suture strength and pulleys have on tendon rehabilitation. The core of the presentation focuses on the variables that alter the work of flexion: range of motion, friction, load, suture strength, position in orthosis, and the effect of the lumbrical and/or interosseous muscle/s. Finally, these variables are discussed as they relate to each flexor zone (with information charts available for each zone.) This presentation focuses on how a therapist might thoughtfully modify protocols based on a specific patient circumstance or zone injury.
