In this fourteenth lecture in this 30-lecture set, we start *fluids**—how liquids and gases behave when they’re at rest (hydrostatics) and when they flow (basic fluid dynamics). The main goal is to build a clear, intuitive chain from **density → pressure → hydrostatic pressure (depth) → buoyancy**, and then connect those ideas to **Bernoulli’s principle* as our first big “flow” concept. We begin with a big-picture overview of what counts as a fluid and what makes fluids different from solids. Then we introduce *density* as a simple but powerful “how much stuff is packed into a given volume” idea. From there we define *pressure* (force spread over an area), and use that to explain why pressure in a fluid increases with depth—because the weight of the fluid above you has to be supported. With that foundation in place, we move to *Archimedes’ principle* and buoyancy: why objects float, sink, or hover, and how buoyant force relates to displaced fluid. Finally, we introduce *Bernoulli’s principle* as a pressure–speed tradeoff in flowing fluids, and discuss what it does (and does *not*) predict in real situations. Topics in this lecture: • Fluids overview: what they are, and what “flow” vs “at rest” means • Density as mass per volume, and how it connects to floating/sinking • Pressure as force per area, and why pressure increases with depth • Hydrostatic pressure: pressure due to the weight of fluids • Buoyancy and Archimedes’ principle (displacement and net force ideas) • Bernoulli’s principle: pressure, flow speed, and common misconceptions Textbook (free, online on LibreTexts): https://coaphys.xyz/phys10book Recommended reading: Chapter 7 (Fluids) ────────── Lecture 14 of 30-ish in "Physics 10 in 30 Lectures" 0:00:00 - Lecture 14 Intro 0:01:44 - Chapter 7 Overview 0:17:35 - Intro to Fluids 0:30:51 - Intro to Density and Pressure 1:02:41 - Pressure Due to Weight of Fluids 1:40:45 - Buoyancy Force (Archimedes’ Principle) 1:46:41 - Bernoulli’s Principle ──────────
