Dear ASJ Readers, This issue represents the end of an era for me personally. Our December issue will be my last as Editor in Chief of ASJ. Thank you for all your support through the years. My selections include two Original Articles, one with a Commentary, from Facial Surgery and Aesthetic Breast Reconstruction, and a Preliminary Report from the Body Contouring section. Don’t miss the 3 international translated abstracts this in month in Turkish, Korean, and Chinese. All articles may be fully translated at the author’s discretion for a small fee. I’ll see you next month and thanks for joining our conversations on Instagram in ASJ and ASJ Open Forum. Stay well and keep reading the Journal! Aesthetic Breast Reconstruction Inferior and Medially Based Breast Parenchymal Rotation Flap: A New Mastopexy Technique for Replacing Breast Volume After Breast Implant Explantation Authors: Sadri Ozan Sözer, MD; and Serhat Sibar, MD Read here: https://academic.oup.com/asj/advance-... Commentary by: Dennis C. Hammond, MD Read here: https://academic.oup.com/asj/advance-... Patients request breast implant removal for many different reasons. This Original Article by Dr. Sadri Ozan Sozer and Dr. Serhat Sibar discusses volume loss after explant, which varies from mild to significant. They found that a new procedure called inferomedial-based parenchymal rotation flap can be applied in this patient group because of its wide rotation arc and reliable vascularity. A Commentary by Dr. Dennis Hammond congratulates the authors, noting that the flap can serve as a “handle” to stabilize the position of the inframammary fold; further study is indicated to determine long-term results. Body Contouring Subfascial/Intramuscular Dual-Plane Gluteal Implantation and Supplemental Fat Grafting: A Novel Technique for Buttock Augmentation Authors: Rolando Morales, MD; James Mentz, MD; Taylor G. Hallman, BS; and Chase Castillo, MD Read here: https://academic.oup.com/asj/advance-... This Preliminary Report by Dr. Rolando Morales and co-authors reviews the debate in the literature: which plane is safest for gluteal implant augmentation, finding that the subfascial/intramuscular dual-plane technique combined with liposculpture and fat transfer offers a durable cosmetic augmentation, without an increase in complications.
