(Nat King Cole had a 15-minute weekly variety series on NBC in 1956 that was cancelled due to a lack of sponsors. Sammy Davis Jr. had a weekly variety series on NBC in 1966 that was cancelled due to low ratings.) During the first two seasons of The Flip Wilson Show, it became the second most popular TV show in America, reaching millions of viewers and breaking down racial barriers, successfully appealing to both black and white audiences.
