Frost Seeding Switchgrass ❄️

Frost seeding , what is it ? Well it’s a great way to get seed into the ground when you may lack machinery. What you’re doing is mimicking Mother Nature . You wait until you have temps that freeze at night and then thaw during day, so late fall, early winter and early spring. What happens is the ground opens pores to get that seed trapped in, then during the thaw and freeze process the up and down temperatures pulls the seed into the seed bed. Switchgrass 🌾 in particular takes to Frost seeding very well. So I pretreated ground with a ground clearing spray 💦 during summer and killed the vegetation down to the dirt . Optimally i would of loved to burn 🔥 away all the duff but I am not aloud by the State or my wife to play with that much fire , lol . So now the seed is on the ground and in the pores . It will be worked in to the ground all winter and get set to a perfect natural depth. This should make for great germination rate when the time comes . All that’s left to do is make sure the weeds stay controlled . Cause the biggest issue for a stand of switchgrass from growing is weeds . The plan is for this switchgrass to add to my deer habitat by making screening. This screening will block people from seeing into my field and prevent deer from feeling pressure from passerby’s on the road . Screening is very important to me to work around my property line to access the woods. This switch grass should reach heads of 5-7 feet in 3 years. Besides screening switchgrass if planted in a large area is amazing for bedding . That’s not my plan here , but you could keep that in mind.
