Silent Art Tour in Paris - the Cluny Museum and the Louvre's Medieval Treasures

SYNOPSIS Welcome (back) to my channel. In this video I take you along on a recent trip to Paris. If you like a form of narration, make sure to turn on the captions! On my trip I decided to go the road less travelled by focusing on Paris' Medieval treasures, which are hidden away in gems like the Cluny Museum of Medieval Art, and the Medieval part of the Louvre. The Cluny museum is one of those lesser known musea that is really, really worth a visit. The building alone is a stunning work of art, and while it isn't a very large museum, it has some stunning works on display that made my jaw drop, with the gilded rose, as an image of eternal Paradise, by Minucchio Jacobi da Siena, Avignon 1330, being my very favourite. In the Louvre, I decided to skip the well-known works to focus wholly on the basement, the Medieval Louvre. It shows the foundations of fort, turned museum, and it was such a quiet and serene place. Once upstairs again, I roamed the halls filled with Medieval treasures, and stopped in my tracks once I spotted the 'Angel in Adoration' by Fra. Angelico, ca. 1400. I had heard of Fra. Angelico before, but seeing these two panels up-close really captivated me. They have such a power over them. Such love and devotion, in addition to the skills of this master that I can only dream of. As a little surprise, I loved the floral details in the halos. This floral detail was actually something that struck me throughout my visit. Every single work was embellished with these minute details, little glimpses of Paradise, if you ask me. I found it so inspirational that I decided to turn these floral details into the theme of this video. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this silent art video while I take you along with me! BIOGRAPHY Elma Hogeboom is a Dutch Chilean 30-something doctoral candidate at the School of Traditional Arts in London. Leveraging her background in the Natural Sciences with a double BSc in Physics and Mathematics and an MSc in Biomedical Sciences, she explores the fusion of scientific research and artistic application in her PhD research 'Painting Paradise'. In her research she particularly focuses on pre-modern European and Islamic methods and materials. By delving into the wisdom of these earlier masters and fusing that with contemporary scientific insights on environmental sustainability, she aims to inspire contemporary artists towards a path that benefits both themselves and our planet.
