Luigi Boccherini: Duo no 1, Op 5 for two violins played by Herman Krebbers and Theo Olof. Allegro - Minuetto Moderato - Trio Minuetto Moderato - Rondo Allegretto This rather lovely work is performed by Holland's most well known and well loved violinists of the 20th century. Hermann Krebbers and Theo Olof were together joint leaders of the Residentie Orchestra in the Hague from 1950 to 1970 and later again with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam from 1974 to 1985, as well as pursing successful solo and chamber music careers at home and abroad. Both men were vastly influential in the development of musical and cultural life in the Netherlands. Aside from his performing career, Olof was also a teacher and broadcaster - he was head of violin at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague until 1982, and in 1975 was one of the original founders of the Dutch classical radio station Hilversum 4. A founder of the Dutch national violin competition in 1967, aptly named the Oskar Back Competition, he was tireless in developing new venues, new repertoire and new opportunities for future generations. Krebbers taught at the Amsterdam Muzieklyceum (now the Conservatorium van Amsterdam) for nearly half a century, where his former students include Vera Beths, Liza Ferschtman, André Rieu, Emmy Verhey , Rudolf Koelman, Saskia Viersen and Frank Peter Zimmerman. Always committed to supporting young musicians, professionals and amateurs alike, he acted as an adjudicator at competitions, both large and small, and even established his own competition for amateur musicians.
