Chetek Lakes Protection Project (Drone, DSLR and Afidus Time Lapse)

This was a community project we've been talking about collaborating on for some time. The Chetek chain of lakes suffers from significant summer algae blooms for a variety of reasons. The Chetek Lakes Protection Association (https://cheteklakespa.org) is a volunteer organization, funded by donations, that is working to improve the overall quality of the lakes. Part of their efforts have focused on reducing the algae by using the skimmer to harvest the blooms and help in keeping waterways navigable. The skimmer is teamed up with a barge and trailer to complete the operation. As the skimmer fills up, it offloads onto the barge and goes back to harvesting. The trailer waits at the nearest landing to receive the harvest from the barge. This material is then delivered to a local business where it used as a nutrient-rich fertilizer. Not only was an interesting shoot but unique for us as it involved setting up 2 time-lapse cameras as well as using the GoPro, DSLR & drone to capture footage over 2 days. The 1st day we captured from our boat with the drone as well as motoring alongside the equipment to get some additional tracking shots. On the 2nd day, we spent time riding along on both the harvester and the barge. Filming simply from the air or the shore would not have provided the footage necessary to highlight the amazing project.
