In today’s video, I take you along as I experiment with laminating soft-plastic baits using 8Bit Baits Warmouth Pixie Dust and Interference Violet Micashift Powder. I’m still pretty new to the whole bait-laminating process, so this session was all about learning, trying new things, and seeing what kind of results I could pull off. Some of the baits turned out beautifully laminated, while others… well, let’s just say they looked a little rough. But honestly, even the “mistakes” came out with some surprisingly natural patterns and color blends that might actually work great in the water. Laminating soft plastics definitely takes more finesse than I expected. Getting both sides to meet perfectly, keeping the plastisol at the right temperature, and timing the pour so the halves bond properly turned out to be trickier than the tutorials make it look. Still, that challenge is part of what makes bait-making so fun. Every pour is a chance to create something different, and even when things don’t go exactly as planned, you can end up with a lure that has a totally unique look and action. For this session, I really wanted to play around with color effects, and that’s where the Warmouth Pixie Dust and Interference Violet Micashift Powder came in. These two additives give the baits a flashy, shifting color profile that changes depending on the angle of the light. When they did laminate cleanly, the result was incredible—sharp, defined lines between the top and bottom colors with a shimmering highlight running through the bait. Those came out looking like legit professional-grade lures. But the ones that didn’t laminate perfectly were actually just as interesting. A few of the baits had uneven seams or blended colors where the layers didn’t bond exactly right, but the effect gave them a more natural, almost hand-painted appearance. The lighter, imperfect marbling created subtle transitions that really mimic the hues and inconsistencies of small baitfish. Sometimes mistakes end up becoming features, and that was definitely the case here. Overall, this video is part tutorial, part experiment, and part honest beginner journey. If you’re also new to laminating soft plastics, I think you’ll get a lot out of seeing what worked well and what didn’t. You’ll see my process, the setup I used, when the plastisol needed adjusting, and how the color powders behaved in different parts of the pour. And of course, you’ll get a close look at how each bait turned out—both the clean laminations and the “happy accidents.” Whether you’re a bait-making veteran or just starting out, I hope you enjoy watching me test out these materials and push my skills a little further. If you’ve got tips, tricks, or advice for improving the lamination process, please drop them in the comments—I’m definitely still learning and would appreciate the help!
