The Town of Litchfield Park is located outside of Phoenix named after its founder, Paul W. Litchfield (1875-1959). He was an executive of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company who came o the Phoenix area in 1916 in search of suitable land to farm a long staple cotton. The east cost cotton supply had been devastated by the boil weevil and the African supply had been greatly reduced by World War I attacks from German U-boats. Litchfield was not successful in motivating local farms to grown his long staple cotton. The Goodyear tire and rubber company decided to buy there own land and started growing long staple cotton. Join me as I tour the towns historical sites including, the wigwam resort, the oldest church in town, and the historic Goodyear cemetery.
