The second module of the International Space Station, Unity, was sent into space in December 1998 aboard space shuttle Endeavour during its STS-88 mission, and began the first of many flights dedicated to assembling this multinational outpost. The launches of Zarya and Unity began the second phase of the International Space Station program, which would see the addition of several pieces, culminating with the first crews to occupy the outpost on a long-term basis. CORRECTION: At about 2:26, it was incorrectly stated that Sergei Krikalev would be the commander of Expedition 1. He was, in fact, a flight engineer for the mission. NASA astronaut Bill Shepherd was the commander for that mission.
