Chapters: Introduction 0:00 Haridwar & Rishikesh 1:18 After a 7-hour train journey from Amritsar, we arrive in Haridwar, one of the holiest cities in India, set along the sacred Ganges River. Our first stop was Har Ki Pauri, the spiritual center of Haridwar and one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites in India, where Krishna’s footprint is believed to rest. We then drive into the Himalayan foothills to Rishikesh, known as the Yoga Capital of the World. Rishikesh India is famous for yoga retreats, meditation retreats in India, and spiritual travel along the Ganges River. We spent our first afternoon walking beside the Ganges at sunset. Yoga & Meditation on the Ganges 4:08 At sunrise in Rishikesh, we traveled to a secluded beach on the Ganges River for a yoga and meditation session surrounded by Himalayan scenery. Practicing yoga by the Ganges in Rishikesh is why many travelers visit for yoga teacher training in India and spiritual retreats. After yoga, we immersed ourselves in the holy Ganga River, honoring its ancient cleansing rituals. The Ganges River in Rishikesh felt far clearer than in Varanasi. We visit Vashishta Cave, a sacred meditation cave linked to Guru Vashishta, then crossed Lakshman Jhula for sweeping Himalayan views over the Ganges. Neer Waterfall & Ganges River White Water Rafting 9:13 An adventure-filled day in Rishikesh began with sunrise yoga, followed by a hike to Neer Garh Waterfall, one of the most scenic waterfalls in Rishikesh. Later, we tackled a 16km Ganges River white water rafting experience, one of the top adventure activities in Rishikesh. White water rafting in Rishikesh is known for Grade 1–3+ rapids and dramatic Himalayan scenery, making it a must-do adrenaline activity in North India. The Beatles at Maharishi Mahesh Ashram 19:10 We ended our time in Rishikesh at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram, also called The Beatles Ashram in Rishikesh. Near Rajaji National Park, this abandoned ashram became world-famous after The Beatles stayed here in 1968 to study Transcendental Meditation and write much of the White Album. The meditation domes and jungle-covered ruins make it one of the most unique places to visit in Rishikesh. Jim Corbett National Park (Phanto Zone) 26:50 We prepared for our first safari in Jim Corbett National Park, the oldest national park in India and a leading destination for tiger safari in India. Our jeep safari through the Phanto Zone took us into dense Sal forest, prime Royal Bengal tiger habitat. We saw a Changeable Hawk Eagle, spotted deer, langurs, macaques, wild boar, and fresh tiger signs. Jim Corbett National Park (Jhirna Zone) 34:52 At sunrise, we explored the Jhirna Zone, one of the most popular safari zones in Jim Corbett National Park. Early morning tiger safari in Jim Corbett offers excellent wildlife photography opportunities. We encountered kingfishers, a jackal, wild boar, an Oriental Pied Hornbill, and fresh tiger paw prints marking Bengal tiger territory. Jim Corbett National Park (Bijrani Zone) 39:30 Our final safari took us into the Bijrani Zone, widely regarded as one of the best areas for tiger sightings in Jim Corbett National Park. Two Royal Bengal tigers — a male and a female — emerged from the forest. For 30 unforgettable minutes, we watched these Bengal tigers in their natural habitat inside India’s most famous tiger reserve, ending our India wildlife safari on a remarkable high.
