Various of UN troops, including Argentinean troops, guarding food supplies STORYLINE: A thunderstorm in Haiti drenched homeless people living on rooftops and pavements on Saturday, adding to the difficulties already caused by Tropical Storm Jeanne. In the northwestern city of Gonaives, some 300-thousand people are homeless and Haiti's government has said that it hopes to temporarily evacuate some of the residents. Some desperate survivors of Jeanne have been trying to steal food from aid recipients and some people have looted aid trucks and mobbed food distribution centres. UN peacekeepers - who already numbered about 600 in Gonaives - have said they are sending in 140 Uruguayan troops as reinforcements to try to keep order. The World Food Programme said it had been able to get food to only about 25-thousand people this week - one-tenth of the city's population. Officials estimate that more than 1,500 Haitians died in floods from Tropical Storm Jeanne and at least 900 more were missing.
