African Cup of Champions Clubs Semi-Final (1st Leg): ASEC Abidjan 3-0 Hafia F.C.| October 1976

Sunday, October 24th 1976. Reuters Synopsis: A crowd of 60,000 people watched the match in Bouake, about 400 kilometres (250 miles) from Abidjan. The match started slowly, with the Conakry side doing most of the attacking for he first 15 minutes and almost scored the opening goal. But the Abidjan side recovered from the Hafia offensive and began to build their own attacking moves. It was the local side which opened the scoring in the 24th minute of the match, when winger Toure Tiany put the ball into the Hafia net. ASEC mounted several more attacks on the Conakry side's goal, but could not score again before half-time. At half time it was ASEC one Hafia nil. In the second half, the match became much harder, and a Hafia player, Bangoura, was sent off for fouling Toure Tiany. Hafia had just failed to equalise shortly before Bangoura was sent off. With Hafia reduced to ten men, the Abidjan side took control of the match. In the 67th minute, ASEC was awarded a penalty after a scuffle near the Hafia goal. The Hafia players protested to the referee and some of the crowd invaded the playing surface. The Hafia goalkeeper, Bernard Sylla, was so annoyed he hit the referee and was immediately sent off. The penalty as successfully taken by Ouattara Lanzane to give the Ivory Coast side a two-nil lead. ASEC continued to attack, and some poor defence by the Conakry team allowed Bawa Paul to score another goal in the 81st minute .The final score was three-goals to nil.
