Math Encounters -- Symmetry, Art, & Illusion -- Scott Kim (Presentation)

Our second Math Encounters presentation (April, 2011) featured artist and author Scott Kim. During the event, Scott took us on a dazzling journey of exploration into the world of symmetry and art. We discovered the surprising mathematical patterns that reappear in art, music, dance, and animation. We also took part in a hands-on workshop where we learned to draw our own symmetrical ambigram lettering designs (as featured in the book, "Inversions"), play with symmetrical rhythmic patterns, and join in a full-body investigation of symmetry. Math Encounters is a new public presentation series celebrating the spectacular world of mathematics and presented by the Simons Foundation and the Museum of Mathematics.
