Ethnologist Dmitryi Oparin talks about Internet scandal, which occurred in 2014, when he suddenly found that the GetTaxi company had changed Caucasian and Asian drivers names to Russian commonly used names in the app. Oparin speaks more about the anthropology of names, providing examples from his Arctic fieldwork experience. Dmitry ends his talk with the issues related to the neo-colonialism studies and an alternative view of the human rights scandal that happened in 2014. PhD in History, anthropologist. Teacher assistant, Department of Ethnology, Moscow State University; research fellow, Institute for Social Development Studies, Higher School of Economics. Research focus – ritual space and ritual dynamics in Chukotka, conducts fieldwork in Chukotka and in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous okrug, author of more than 20 academic papers on history and culture of the indigenous Siberia. For the last two years conducts fieldwork among the Muslim migrants in Moscow.
