When an adult white rhino is seen with wire dangerously wrapped around it's leg and neck we have to intervene to remove the wire. The team leave early one morning to locate the rhino, and her calf, as the wildlife team want to take advantage of the situation and get DNA of the calf before she leaves her mum. Watch this film to see the procedures involved with taking DNA, from bloods, DNA samples from tail hair and the horn, as well as inserting microchips into both horns and the neck. For ID purposes we also notch the youngsters ears. Amazing opportunity for our gap year students and volunteers to get involved and learn about rhino conservation and wildlife management.
