Held on August 29, 1982, at the Dijon-Prenois circuit in France — yes, France — the Swiss Grand Prix had been banned from its home country since 1955, following the tragic Le Mans disaster. After nearly three decades of absence, the race finally returned to the World Championship calendar as Round 14 of the 1982 Formula One season. Keke Rosberg, starting from 8th on the grid in his Williams-Ford, seemed out of contention. Lap after lap, Prost controlled the race with clinical precision. Then, René Arnoux's Renault — running second — suffered a fatal fuel injection failure on lap 75. Suddenly, Keke Rosberg was right behind the leader with everything to play for. With just two laps to go, Rosberg made his move. He attacked on the inside of the downhill left-hander at the back of the circuit — a bold, almost reckless lunge that left Prost with no answer. Keke Rosberg crossed the finish line first, 4.4 seconds ahead of Prost, with Niki Lauda rounding out the podium in third for McLaren. But the drama didn't end there. Race officials — caught off guard — missed the leader on lap 80 and failed to wave the checkered flag on time. Rosberg was forced to complete an extra lap before the race was officially declared over. Even victory couldn't come easy at the 1982 Swiss Grand Prix. This was not just any win. It was Keke Rosberg's first — and only — victory of the entire season. Yet somehow, that single triumph was enough to put him firmly in control of the Drivers' Championship, with 42 points ahead of the injured Didier Pironi on 39. Ferrari had a miserable weekend: Patrick Tambay, their only entry following Pironi's career-ending crash weeks before, couldn't even take the start due to injury. The 1982 Swiss Grand Prix also made history in another way — it marked Finland's very first Formula One World Championship victory.
