The Appalachian Trail is a 2,180+ mile long public footpath that traverses the scenic, wooded, pastoral, wild, and culturally resonant lands of the Appalachian Mountains. (Source: https://www.nps.gov) Long Hill Road (41.500202, -73.813369) to Depot Hill Rd (41.5726, -73.6809) is a 12.5 miles point to point A.T. section hike located at Beekman, NY. The trail features: • The Ralph Peak Hikers’ Cabin – unusual AT shelter but well-loved one. It was once an enclosed cabin, but one end of it was removed to make a three-sided shelter. There is bunk space for 6 inside, but plenty more space for others on the floor in a pinch, and lawn space and tent platforms for several tents. A pit privy is located near the shelter. The shelter is located next to a few houses on Hortontown Road, so remember that you have neighbors when using this shelter. • A rocky ledge near the summit of Hosner Mountain with open views to the west and north. The farms in the valley below and the Taconic Parkway are clearly visible, as well as Shenandoah Mountain south on the AT. Further north and west, on a clear day, the Shawangunk Ridge is visible in the distance, and possibly even the Catskill Mountains. • Morgan Stewart Shelter located short distance off the AT. This is a 6 person lean-to with space for several tents and a moldering privy.
