Super Alloy 1 contains cadmium. Strip the chrome from classic pot metal automobile parts and you're likely to see pitting from oxidation. This video demonstrates an easy method for filling these pits quickly to get you back on the road. Begin by using a Dremel tool with a burr tip to dig the oxidation from the pit. If you see any dark specks go a little deeper and remove those as well. Always clean your pot metal just before you start your repair, because pot metal oxides quickly. The rule of thumb is don't clean it the night before clean it immediately before you apply Super Alloy 1. To apply, dip Super Alloy 1 rod into the honey flux and paint it across the pitting. After the part cools, remove the flux residue with warm water and plate as usual. Plating shops sometimes cover the pits with copper rather than filling them properly, but this is a temporary fix that will definitely fail, and your pot metal will be showing signs of pits much sooner than before. Clean the flux off of the rod before placing it back into the PVC tube. #ClassicCarRestoration #EliminatePotMetalPits #SolderPotMetal #ClassicCarPartsRepair 🔔 If you found this video helpful, subscribe for more practical metal repair tutorials.
