Join us for another adventure along the stunning River Lot, where life is never dull and always full of surprises. It’s Friday, and that means one thing—market day in Saint Livrade! We set off upriver for our regular shopping trip, a visit to the pub, and, of course, a leisurely lunch. This time, we’re not alone—we’ve picked up some friends from Fongrave to join us on this classic Lot outing. After lunch, with the November weather showing off its finest, we make the most of the river. The Lot winds its way for an impressive 485 kilometers, yet it remains one of France’s best-kept secrets. Its shimmering waters mirror rolling hills, picturesque vineyards, and storybook villages. This tranquil waterway is a hidden gem, offering pure serenity at every turn.In November, the Lot’s magic takes on a new layer. Sunsets and sunrises gift us with a lazy mist that drapes the landscape in an ethereal glow, adding a dreamlike quality to an already stunning region. Days like these are the kind you wish could last forever. The Next Morning: Fridges and Furniture But life on the Lot isn’t all relaxation. The next morning, I find Maria buzzing with energy as new fridges for the guest bedrooms arrive. These are exciting upgrades for our new Airbnb venture, but, as usual, there’s a catch—one of the wardrobes has to go. And when I say “go,” I mean shuffled down a narrow corridor with a kink, or potentially chopped up for kindling! After plenty of maneuvering (and some grumbling), we manage to sort it all out, even if it feels a bit like playing a life-sized Klotski puzzle. The good news? The rooms are now even more welcoming for our guests. Meanwhile, the Fongrave fishermen are out in full force for their annual Black Bass competition, the final leg of the France B.A.S.S. Nation circuit. This prestigious event brings top anglers from all over, as they compete for a chance to qualify for the B.A.S.S. Master Classic in the U.S.—the world’s most famous fishing competition. For two days, the River Lot becomes a battleground, with boats gliding across its waters equipped with high-tech gear like echosounders and electric motors. Black bass are known for being feisty and fast, making this no easy feat for the competitors. As for me, I’ve never learned to fish, but a friend has promised to teach me next year—so who knows, maybe I’ll be out there with the pros one day. A Walk Through History: Penne-d’Agenais With Albie looking bored from all the furniture moving and fridge installing, I decide to take him for a walk around Penne-d’Agenais, a charming medieval village a little further upstream. While the weather isn’t perfect for filming, I couldn’t resist sharing a glimpse of its history. The highlight is the stunning Notre-Dame-de-Peyragude, perched high on the hillside, along with its caves and the iconic statuette of the Virgin and Child. This village is also home to the ruins of Richard the Lionheart’s castle, a spot I’ll definitely return to in better weather for a proper video. Penne-d’Agenais has an undeniable charm, blending history and beauty in every corner. The Boat Comes Out of the Water The day arrives to take our boat out of the water for the season. Thankfully, Fongrave has the perfect slipway for smaller boats like ours. Watching the boat come out of the water is a moment of bittersweet satisfaction—it’s a reminder that winter is near, but also a chance to reflect on all the wonderful moments we’ve had on the Lot this year. As always, we end the day with another stunning sunset over the River Lot. It’s moments like these that remind us why we’ve chosen this life, trading the sea for the river and Jersey for this beautiful corner of France.
